SetPoint volume control in Vista

It seems Logitech has some pretty functional SetPoint drivers out for Vista already (SetPoint is the all-purpose driver software for all their keyboards and mice).

The ony thing that did not work was the volume control. I could turn it up and down and the visual volume meter would respond (the SetPoint generated one, not the Vista one), but nothing would actually happen.

Fortunately there's an easy solution.

Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint". Now make sure that the "SetPoint.exe" process is NOT running - you may have to click Ctrl+Shift+Escape and end the process in the task manager.

Now rightclick SetPoint.exe and select "Properties". Navigate to the Compatibility pane and set it to run in compatibility mode as Windows XP (Service Pack 2). After this, double click SetPoint.exe to restart the process. Your volume control should now work!

This fix actually hasnt worked for me. Im using Vista, Setpoint 3.3, with an MX3000 keyboard. Volume controls will only click the volume up once or down once, and if I manually raise or lower the volume, the second I use the volume control, it will go back to minimal, and only moving one click. I can mute, but not unmute with my keyboard as well. Any ideas? Ive been scouring the internet and havent found anything that works.

I found several problems with the Vista release of SetPoint (4.00) which caused me to roll back my system (and, sorry to say, your solution for the volume control did not work for me):

1. Volume control does not work: slightest touch in either direction toggles volume between maximum and minimum (no inbetween).

2. System always boots at maximum volume.

3. Sound quality severely degraded: less ambient, less dynamic, muddier. Like going back to iTunes from WMP11 (I suspect in both cases it is bypassing the 24bit 48kHz setting and using 16bit 44.1kHz and forcing the soundcard to use lesser quality circuitry paths rather than its "studio quality" components).

4. System sometimes boots with loud hissing from speakers. Cold boot required to fix.

5. Mouse spontaneously gets stuck in zoom mode for no apparent reason. Everything clicked on starts receiving a continuous stream of zoom commands. The 100% button does not undo the result (when it finally decides to stop, that is).

To fix Setpoint fault, disable all audio devices then reenable them.
